Palm Springs Air Museum Honors Victory in Japan (VJ) Day With a Live Stream and Fly Over September


Sept.1, 2020, Palm Springs, CA: On Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at approximately 11 AM the Palm Springs Air Museum honors World War II Victory in Japan with a brief Live Stream ceremony / interview followed by a patriotic air display throughout the valley. The Live Stream ceremony from the Palm Springs Air Museum Tarmac features Vice Chairman Fred Bell interviewing SSgt Robert McKee. McKee is a veteran of the war in the Pacific, a B-29 Superfortress radar operator, member of the 497th Bomb Group, 73rd Bomb Wing, 20th Air Force.


At approximately 11:20 AM the aircraft will depart the ramp and make one pass over the museum before heading on their flights around the valley. Listen for the engines and then go outside and look up to see our patriotic flights. This Valley-wide flight display features our “What’s Up Doc” C-47 Skytrain, T-28 Trojan, and P-63 Kingcobra. Wednesday’s flight path is as follows: Yucca Valley Community Center, Desert Memorial Park, Sunline Transit Agency, Sun City Shadow Hills Community Association, Indio City Hall, Coachella Valley Water District, Jacquelyn Cochran Regional Airport, City of La Quinta, City of Indian Wells, Desert Holocaust Memorial, Eisenhower Health, Rancho Mirage City Hall, City of Cathedral City, Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, Desert Regional Medical Center, Palm Springs City Hall and Desert Hot Springs City Hall.

The Palm Springs Air Museum contains over 60 vintage aircraft from World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War contained in 86,000 square feet of open hangars and on the tarmac.  Additional displays and memorabilia are located throughout the hangars. Hours are 10 to 5. Admission rates range from $11.50 to $18.50. Kids 12 and under get in free with paid adult admission. Discounts for seniors and teenagers. Active military and immediate family are free with ID.
